Dealing with Asperger Syndrome.
Asperger Syndrome is a relatively mild form of autism that effects people in different ways than regular autism. Because it usually does not affect language, many people with Asperger Syndrome go undiagnosed. This is the one form of autism that is usually not caught at an early age and is instead a disorder that develops later in life. Asperger Syndrome, however, can be a very difficult condition to have, so as soon as you suspect yourself or your child of having communication and social behavior problems, see your family doctor.
Many famous and successful people were diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome. Historians even suggest that Einstein and Mozart each suffered from this disorder. It is important to note that no form of autism is a form of mental retardation. In fact, most people with Asperger Syndrome are very intelligent. Asperger Syndrome does not dictate mental ability, but rather makes it difficult for people to communicate in social settings, much in the same way a typical autistic child has trouble with behavior in groups. When this disorder goes undiagnosed, children do not get the help they need, leading to problems in school such as bullying. Most children are relieved to find out they have Asperger Syndrome instead of just thinking they are less of a person. By getting diagnosed, not only can you or your child put a name to the problems, but it is then also possible to get treated to improve your overall situation.
Some symptoms to watch out for if you suspect Asperger Syndrome are some of the same symptoms that people with full-blown autism experience. This includes social confusion, first and foremost. Many people with Asperger Syndrome find it very difficult to deal with transition or change, wanting everything to stay the same. A quickly changing environment is especially confusing. People with Asperger Syndrome also may say rude or inappropriate things when they don’t mean to do so, and may not be able to understand others’ thought processes. Another common trait they share with autistic individuals is fixation, although people with Asperger Syndrome usually have more control over their fixations, which take the form of highly focused interests. If you suspect yourself or a loved one of this disorder, these are just a few of the signs for which you should be watching. You doctor should be able to answer further questions and provide both reading material and treatment for this disorder.

Mind Your Prostrate Gland.
When a prostrate gland enlarges,it results in a condition called Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy(BPH) or Benign prostrate enlargement(BPE).
The enlargement grows inwards compressing the urethra like a clamp on a garden hoose and thus obstructing the outflow of urine. The man will get an urgent feeling to urinate and does it more frequently especially at night,he will have dribbling and leakage,a hesitant, interupted weak stream and may require several seconds to get urination started.there may be a burning sensation due to infection.
Sometimes, a man may not know he has BPH until he suddenly finds himself unable to urinate at all especially after overindulging in alcohol. This is because alcohol makes the kidney go into overdrive producing alot more urine than normal and the bladder overfills obstructing its neck that is already narrowed by the enlarged prostrate. The same can happen after taking over the counter cold or allergy medicines which contain a decongestant drug whose side effects is to prevent the bladder from oppening, relaxing and allowing urine to empty.
Tests: Prostrate specific antigen(PSA).It is a blood test which is conducted to rule out prostrate cancer.PSA is protein produced by prostrate and its levels are high when cancer is present.
Treatment:Watchful waiting- When the gland is not very large,a regular checkup to watch for early problems is what yuo require.
Drug treatment:They stop the growth of the prostrate or shrink it by blocking the action of the powerful male organ that stimulates its growth.Other drugs act by relaxing the smooth muscle of the prostrate and bladder neck to improve urine flow and ot reduce bladder outlet obstruction.
Surgical treatment: surgery is the best long term solution for BPH.Only the enlarged tissues that is pressing against the urethra is removed inorder to relieve the obstruction.Trans- urethral resection of the prostrate(TURP) is used for most BPH surgeries where the surgeon passes an instrument through the urethra to remove the obstructing tissue one piece at a time like chipping away a potatoe.
It will take a while for sexual function to return fully. The exact length will depend on how long the man had a BPH and on the type of surgery done.If you were able to maintain an erection before surgery, you should be able to do so after.
Surgery may also cause Retrograde ejaculation or dry climax, normally during sexual activity,as sperms enter the urethra,a muscle blocks off the entrance and the semen is expelled through the penis.Prostrate surgery may damage this muscle and the semen takes the path of least resistance and enters the wider opening to the bladder rather than being expelled through the penis and is later harmlessly flushed out with urine.
If a good part of the prostrate is left out during surgery,it is still possible for BPH to recur. It is thus important to continue checkups once a year after the operation.
Although signs of BPH and prostrate cancer are similar,BPH does not increase the chances of getting prostrate cancer but you could have undetected prostrate cancer or may develop it in the future. It is recommended that all men over 40 years have a PSA once a year depending on doctors advice. These tests should be done routinely as women do their pap smears and mammograms. The tissues removed are routinely checked for cancer cells, a few have some cancerous tissues but it is often of a non-aggressive type cancer and no treatment is needed.
